With the news that The Computer Zone Inc. had been sold to AFASTCO, I was curious to what this would mean to OCZ and The Overclockerz Store (which are represented in our Overclocking Pricelist). So I contacted Ryan Petersen, CEO of The Computer Zone Inc., and asked a few questions to clear things out a little.
I just heard that The Computer Zone Inc. (The Overclockerz Store, OCZ etc) have been bought by AFASTCO. Who are they ? Afastco Group Inc. is a company based in Boise, Idaho which are involved in hardware resale, ISP and Webhosting services, Wholesale distribution and manufacturing. Why did you sell - and why to AFASTCO ?Afastco offered us all the resources necessary to improve our products, warranty and customer service to the levels we desire. They have over 18 years experience in this business and the resources to back us up. Also they did not want to change the direction of our companies. They will in fact speed along our growth process. What will the purchase mean to The Computer Zone Inc. companies - will it be business as usual - or will it be business as unusual !?I would say it will be business as unusual. There will be lots of changes , however the general direction of the companies will not change. Just diversify a little. Who will be in charge of the new company - will it be the Board of directors from AFASTCO or will it still be you ?I will be heading the R&D dept for all AFASTCO group companies. I will be on the board of directors which decide the direction of the company. My position will more likely be to decide which products to release and general policy making rather than to actually manage the day to day operations Which I believe is best for the company and our customers.
I think the AFASTCO group will be able to help the service and sales side of the company greatly without changing our target audience. We have in the past had service problems and I think that this will really turn that around within the next 30 days. The AFASTCO companies have 18 years experience running this type of business and we will rely heavily upon their experience. Will you still focus on the same kinds of products, i.e. products aimed at overclockers and other 'power users' ? Have you got any new product or product line ups planned ?Well I will be heading up the R&D dept, thats what I have always been good at. And while our products lines may grow bigger, have better support and such there is no way we could change the type of products we manufacture or sell.
With our increased resources though we will be able to begin manufacturing products which we were unable to before. As well as improving documentation. OCZ
