Introduction
I wasn’t keen on this when I first saw it. Ben showed me magazine after magazine of screenshots but it didn’t matter to me. I thought this has been done before, and when I read the blurb that went with the previews I hardly saw any difference from the original Aliens versus Predator and asked myself “How can it offer any thing new?”. However when it came out everyone started saying how fun it was that I just relented and decided to take the plunge and buy it. But was it really worth my cash? Or merely just a 21st century clone of its former self?
Compatibility
I haven’t upgraded my PC recently. Usually it takes the most recent and demanding game to give me that kick up the backside I need to actually go out and upgrade! It was like that for ‘Klingon Honour Guard’ all those years ago, like that for ‘Operation Flashpoint’ about 6 months ago, and now it seems the time to yield is approaching nearer all the time thanks to this game. AvP2 is demanding, and I just fail the recommended values in the memory department so I do have a lot of slowdown even on the pitiful low detail settings.
Some recent games make use of current technology better (‘RtCW’ works wonders on my PC!) while some are over demanding like ‘Operation Flashpoint’ and this title too. If you have anything a lot higher than me I doubt you won’t have much trouble and will be pleasantly surprised when it gives you the latest in PC games graphics that’s available! Those who own PCs that are only slightly better than the recommended prepare to have your settings turned down, and may'be even your resolutions to drop below the lovely 1024x768 if you're after speed. Those who are well below, maybe it's time we all started thinking about upgrading because we are missing out! :-)
