Gameplay

Gameplay

To the untrained eye, or those people determined to drag down so called ‘controversial titles’ at any cost, all this game is about is getting into cars, doing some missions and killing people.
To those who pay a little more attention you are rewarded. There is so much to the game it’s truly a work of genius. There are so many things to discover I’d probably go on for ages (by which time you’d be even more bored than you are now! LOL). Apart from the main missions, you can do sub missions such as a Taxi driver, the Police, Fire Fighter and Ambulance driver. When you fancy a break from the missions you can go almost whatever you want, doing almost whatever you feel like. Being a thief, a thug, doing stupid stunts, causing chaos, causing accidents, running from the law, finding secret packages littered throughout the city, finding special hidden missions are just a few of the things you can do in GTA3. Hey, I find myself exploring the city sights on many occasions. Ok, so all those things listed are not entirely original concepts. After all, GTA also had those aspects. But in glorious 3D it adds a whole new dimension; Realism.
See unlike the original you don’t get bored as quickly. The third dimension adds to the fun, and totally enhances the GTA experience completely to an unprecedented level.

Lights, Camera, Action!!
Despite the realism aspects such as accurate gravity and car physics, there is also a mixture of unrealistic Hollywood style action thrown in to spice things up. There would be no way a man could survive the amount of car crashes my player has been in! Instead of deducing marks, it actual adds them. This makes the game so fun and playable you can often recreate things you see in your favourite action films. Its also leads to some incredibly funny and exciting moments that your bound to run into.

From almost the word go you get some big laughs out of this title, and not only from the impending action sequences you come across. Everything about the game is a laugh. From rude and crude company names (like ‘Bitchin Dog Food’, hell I love that name), funny radio advertisements, posters, and the characters you meet along the way, there is so much to keep you amused. This game will not fail to bring a smile at some point, even for the most miserable of computer gamers.

Real life Noises
The sound effects in the game are truly awesome. Again there is so much to say, such little space. Citizens talk, mutter, and hurl hilarious insults at you and each other. If a car blows up, citizens run to the scene screaming things like “oh my god!” and other such remarks.
Then we have all the city noises, from planes passing over, cars beeping in roads, sirens sounding. It really does help add to that real life ‘living city’ idea that we enjoy.

Oh yeah, the Radio Music is also to its usual quality for GTA games. All the stations all provide different tunes suited to most people tastes. And if you get bored, you can also add your own MP3’s to listen to in-game! That’s another feature that the PS2 version doesn’t have. :-)

Multiplayer
Quite simply put, “Where is it!”
Bearing in mind the original supported 1-4 players over a modem/LAN it does kind of feel like Rockstar just put two fingers up on this one. True it might be to complex to have done it, but I can just imagine behind the scenes the developers real reason being “The Playstation 2 didn’t (couldn’t) have one, so therefore we won’t even bother to try and make one for PC”. We are promised Multiplayer in GTA4, supposedly, pity it didn’t make it this time round.
