Intro
Perhaps one of the most talked about and eagerly anticipated games of last year, Max Payne finally reached the shelves. It was doubtful at times whether or not this title was ever going to make it to a fully fledged PC game as many thought it was merely a graphical demo showing off some of the new fancy features on graphics cards. Then when the film “The Matrix” came out, Remedy (the team behind Max Payne) must have been given that extra kick they needed to produce a full game using the look and a few cool features from the film. And a good job they did too, for this game is truly fun to play. But is it as exceptional as we all hoped?
Compatibility
Now here is a fairly demanding game (for about a year ago)! But looking at the screenshots you think it’s hardly surprising. The recommended values are fairly high, but what they give on the box is pretty accurate. My system is only slightly faster, and I notice only the occasional slow down. This is in the obvious areas of course that you come to expect in any game, like large open spaces, many opponents and millions of explosions at once etc. So don’t be disheartened if you frame rate drops in these areas. However on average there is hardly any real slow down, which is a good thing considering you really want see Max Payne is all its glory with very little options turned off!
Saying all of that I have heard off a few problems occurring with some older graphics cards while I went around reading in forums, such as major stability issues with Voodoo 3 cards. It is always best to check with the Troubleshooting section of a particular games website just to see if any of the problems are with your hardware. But they are usually driver problems or game settings.
