Company / Developers – Digital Extremes / Epic games / Atari Homepage Genre – First Person Shooter Demo Release Date – Early October 2002
Introduction
In the gaming community there have been three games that have had quite a lot of coverage on them, almost to the point of over-kill. These games are the eagerly awaited Doom 3, Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 2003. The first to hit our desktops will be the latter due for release in October.
I can’t say I’ve fallen for the hype. While all three games I admit look excellent I’ve learnt from experience not to get too excited just in case you set yourself up for an even bigger fall. It’s the pessimist’s outlook on life I guess.
Unreal Tournament was huge when it first arrived, and still is very popular even today. But will its own younger brother finally knock it off the top of the deathmatch king slot?
Where do I download the demo?
Loads of sites have the demo, so finding one that suits you won’t be a problem. Look at the Homepage for the list.
You can either queue for ages at the lovely Gamespy’s fileplanet (if that’s your cup of tea), or download direct from many other sites. The one I got it from was the homelanfed.com server, which downloaded at around 59KB/sec for all those with Broadband connections.
The demo is roughly 100MB by the way.
Compatibility
With my specs the demo runs perfectly. I had no noticeable slowdown (but then again I was to busy trying to survive!) and at 1024x768 at 32Bit colour it looked wicked.
People with lower specs may have issues (I’ve heard that some players have major slowdown even with systems slightly higher than the recommended), but for those with better systems than me don’t fret.
