Introduction

Republic: The Revolution will divide players into two camps. Those who will cry “I don’t get it, it SUCKS” and those who will try it, then understand and enjoy it. The later should be praised and worshipped as our intellectual superiors, while the former should get on with playing Tekken or something . Those with short attention spans, are put off by seeing loads of numbers, or those who are quick to pass judgement will not like Republic, because your first impressions won’t be good whichever camp you ultimately fall into.

This is not because Republic is a rubbish game, only a real tough nut to get into. The learning curve is extremely steep, and took me at least 2 days worth of playing to fully understand what I have to do and how to do it. You see, although the manual is well presented and an interesting document to read it really does a lousy job at preparing you for the game. In fact you’ll find the manual more useful after you picked up the basics. But then by that time many players will have given up, which is a shame. For those diehard strategy fans that strive to look beyond first impressions, and actually give the game a chance, you will be rewarded with a very interesting and unique game.

Compatibility

Looks like I need an upgrade again! Although I meet the minimum I sadly don’t quite make the high recommended. I do suffer from slowdown, and at times it is quite painstakingly obvious. The slowdown often occurs during action sequences, or when you are cruising across the 3D landscape a bit too quickly.
However, I play at 1024x768 with maximum texture settings because I’m too stubborn to play at anything lower. So suffice to say if you could live with lower details and resolutions and you had a fair bit above the minimum specs then you probably could play the game.
