Introduction
I think it’s a fair statement to say that most people have seen the Return of the King, next to impossible to say that no-one hasn’t ever heard about it. Winner of 11 Oscars the latest instalment of the trilogy proved a massive hit. Not that surprising then that a number of games based around this fabulous film have started to manifest themselves over the recent months.
One game that captures the feel and action of the film is the originally titled “Return of the King”, which has is on all major consoles and PC. An action slash fest that came out a few months before release to stir up your appetite for the newest movie. Now that interest in the movie has been further increased by the recent Oscar winnings I thought it’d be a good time to review this game, to satisfy any hobbit cravings you may be having.

Compatibility

Despite all the other versions of this being on the major consoles the PC version clearly excels in graphical performance, assuming you have the system power. On my system, playing at 1028x768 was a breeze, with only a slightest bit of slowdown when loads of boulders crashed in front of the screen. Apart from that one instance I’ve noticed no slowdown, even when confronted by thousands of enemies. If your system is only slightly above spec you’ll probably have to play with lower settings.
Stability within the game is fine, with no in-game crashes to be seen through my whole journey, which was nice to experience.
A few users with technical problems have been noted within the EA message boards, one frequent one seeming to be that the game requires a graphics adapter with hardware T&L (Transform and Lighting) support to run. Therefore people that have Intel graphics controllers that do not support hardware T&L are causing direct 3D issues. There is fix for that problem here though. Other issues then I suggest consulting the message board before contacting EA Tech Support.
