Introduction

When I bought Unreal Tournament 2004 I was in my element, blasting away at those lovely looking polygons and generally thinking “my pc is cool! Much better than my consoles!” as you do. You see, I have quietly got bored of waiting for Doom3 and Half-life; two games that seem to be in development hell and maybe doomed themselves (forgive the pun). But how can I be so sure? I mean the graphics of both look awesome. Well if they delay any longer then there will be some serious consequences. If it’s the graphics engines that get you all hot and sweaty then looks like these games are going to be surpassed before they even arrive on the shelves! Far Cry has arrived delivering a surprise attack on the PC games market and is no doubt ready to give both Doom3 and Half-life 2 a run for their money.

Compatibility

This is nothing compared to what Cry Team want you to have your machine to have to play this the way it’s supposed to be. Here are Cry Team’s 'ideal' specs for the game.

The game is a walking advert for AMD’s new Athlon 64 technology as well as the latest Nvidia GPU’s. Running on my specs I had to do a lot of tweaking to get it to run at the speed I wanted and with little reduction in graphic quality. Try as I might though as soon as I hit the higher resolutions this game slowed down to a snails pace. This is one spec hungry title that I would definitely NOT recommend to those who have anything less than what I have for MY specs let alone the, so called, ‘recommended’ ones! The major slow down factors are mainly the lighting and shadow effects with water effects a close third, I found that I could bump up the texture quality, environment effects and everything else to their highest settings with only a slight drop in performance. The game still looks great, though of course you’ll want more! Ladies and gentlemen it truly is time to upgrade.
