Introduction
Today we are blessed with fast speed internet connections that allow us to play with hundreds of other games players online, death match is almost an everyday thing now, no longer for the privileged few with high speed internet access. People are owning each other all day and all night. Life for the multiplayer addict is generally pretty sweet. But when you think about it – it’s pretty faceless isn’t it? I mean yeah you could beat little Jimmy down the road at a PC Quake tourney or fight Mr. Hamada San from Tokyo in a X-box live Street fighter battle but unless your willing to go out and LAN then you’re still stuck at home on your own playing on a computer game system.
It wasn’t always this way you know – back in the day computer games encouraged real life violence! No I’m not saying you went out side and chain sawed the first person you saw and took his GP to buy some elixir and a grenade launcher. No what I’m talking about is the split screen games that made you punch the person sitting next to you in a fit of frustration. I’m talking about a bunch of people, friends if you will, huddled around a screen, laughing and shouting, crying and competing with each other for no reason other than to prove you had “sick” skills. Split screen modes on games that aren’t beat ‘em ups these days seem little more than a distraction, something extra for when you finish that racing game properly. At the moment, internet play reigns supreme. Nintendo want to change this, Nintendo want to bring people together in an orgy of happiness, strong emotions and no doubt drunkenness. Nintendo went and invented Wario Ware Inc. The fools!
