Introduction
If you haven’t played the original battlefront game then it’s a fair bet that you’ve only just flopped out of the swamp and have found yourself staring dumbfounded at your brand-new opposable appendages. It sold like hot cakes. In fact, it sold like particularly cheap but very tasty hot cakes that were on offer 2 for 1 and came with a free nostril hair trimmer. Basically, it sold very, very well. The odd thing was that it wasn’t particularly good. Indeed, it was decidedly average.
But that didn’t stop you playing it though! Many was the time I cranked up the old PS2 in order to jump into a snow speeder and tow-cable the empire to its knees, cackle with glee from the controls of an AT-AT, or mount a Tonton for my visceral pleasure. It was about as close as I could get to reliving the Star Wars films in a game.
That said, it was one of the most short lived games you could possibly come across. The single player was just map followed by map, interspersed with the obligatory movie clips but sadly lacking in any story or any reason for fighting. Once completed you put the game on your shelf only to find yourself taking it back off the shelf a few days later, and blasting some more rebel scum. So when I heard Battlefront II was on its way out, I thought ‘sod it’, and went and dished out a handsome sum for it.
