Opening up the hard shell boxes reveals two rather generic looking sticks of memory, with only a couple of Twinmos stickers to identify branding. The sticks incorporate 16 x 32MB 'PSC' memory chips. PSC stands for Powerchip Semiconductor Corp., makers of inexpensive wafer in Taiwan. They have a reputation for creating cheap but decent memory.
Its nice to see Twinmos using a proper JDEC approved PCB, with the top row of bypass capacitors in place. Take note Geil, inclusion of these might help you hit the rated speed once in a while.
These PCS chips are rated to 5ns, (1000 / 5 = 200MHz) meaning Twinmos are running them right in spec with those recommended by the manufacturer. To be honest I know very little about PSC based memory, as this is the first stick we have tested incorporating their technology. The truth will be in the testing so without further ado, let's test the memory!
