Don't you just hate it when you have a 2 MB file that you need to move from one machine to another? Too big for a floppy, yet a total waste of one of your 700MB CDs. You could of course invest in a ZIP drive, or another large capacity removable storage medium, but the disks are always overpriced, and only useful if both machines have a drive. X-Micro have the perfect solution for you, their Apex Flash stick.
Featuring up to a gigabyte of storage, the smart packaging contains:
- The APEX Flash Stick itself
- USB2.0 USB extension cable
- CD driver Disk
- User's manual
- A cord to hang the drive around your neck.
Remove the Apex from the package and the first thing you will notice is its weight. No more than a couple of grams, you wouldn't even notice it in your pocket. The USB interface is protected by a clip-on lid so you can fling it around without worrying too much about it being broken. A small red LED informs you of a successful USB connection and it flashes during data transfer. On the back of the drive you will find a belt clip, allowing you to conveniently stow the flash stick on your person, like a pen. A small switch on the side of the stick allows you lock the stick, protecting the data from being deleted or edited. This works in a similar way to the lock on a floppy disk.
Opening the drive up (don't do this at home folks) reveals the circuits inside. Storage is handled by a single Samsung memory chip (which is simple to remove from the rest of the PCB). The rest of the PCB deals with the USB - flash memory interface. You can buy the Apex Flash Stick for around $40 worldwide now.
