Albatron FX5200 Ultra

The first word that came into my head when I first opened the box was "Hercules". Quite rightly too, because the Albatron features the same blue PCB and copper heatsink and heatspreaders that have made the french company famous. This is no bad thing, and the build quality of the FX is extremely good. Notice that the fan ouputs most of its air radially, blowing air through the large surface area provided by the copper heatsink.

The memory also comes fully equipped with heatspreaders, usefully held in place by some clips rather than the useless super-glue you usually find on such just-for-show gimmicks. The underside of the card is similarly decked out with memory ramsinks and are kept in place by the same clip. Quite a clever design, and makes the application of a premium thermal compound like Shin-Etsu a walk in the park.

The Albatron features DVI, VGA and TV-out, a very respectable boast for an entry level card. Removing the ramsinks revealed nanya chips rated at 2.8 ns. this is good for a speed of 714MHz DDR, so we should be able to overclock the memory by a shed-load (in theory).
