The cooler

If you recall a few years ago, HP monitors had a certain defect that caused an electrical shock, which lead to a risk of fire or worse, electrical burns. HP has of course fixed this defect since then, but customers found their monitors to be unreliable. HP may not know how to build a monitor, but we'll soon find out whether or not they can cool one.

As you can see, this is really nothing more than a fan that rests on top of your monitor. It would have been nice if HP included a thermal diode as well as a backlit temperature monitor. A speed adjuster would have been nice too.

The cooler does come with some nice feet and a hook to obviously latch to one of the venting holes of your overwhelmingly hot monitor. The 90mm fan is set to take hot air from the monitor and blow it out. Some of you may argue that it's better to blow cool air in, rather than having an exhaust fan. In all honesty, it makes no difference. Either way, you are still recycling the ambient air. If you wish to dissipate heat faster, using two fans (one as inflow, the other as outflow) is logically and literally better.

Installation was hardly an effort. If logic hasn't kicked you in the face yet, you simply remove one of the PCI covers in your case, screw the HP bracket in, and finally connect it to your power supply. Connect the cooler to the back of the bracket, and you have yourself a very quiet monitor cooler.
