Corsair have flirted with things other than just memory in the past, and it has to be said, with limited success. You may remember this review at [H]ard|OCP when Corsair tried their hands at building complete systems for the elite gamer. Highly impressive stuff, but what happened to it? This time Corsair have seen a gap in the watercooling market, and have teamed up with Auto-cooling specialists Delphi to produce what they consider to be the easiest to use water cooling kit on the market.
The Hydrocool 200 already has some stiff competition in this field however, mainly from the Koolance EXOS (reviewed here), which is another external box unit, and also from a new generation of push-fit internal kits, the best of which is Aseteks waterchill (reviewed here). Packaging of the Hydrocool comes in the form of a vast box, with all of the parts exceptionally well protected. One thing I have heard from our pals at Chillblast is a high number of Waterchills damaged in transit, so Asetek need to pay attention here perhaps.
The contents of the box are as follows:
- The Hydrocool 200 device itself
- The waterblock with a total of 10m of tubing ready attached
- The 15 pin D-sub control and power cable
- Mounting mechanisms
- Interface Slot card (takes up one PCI slot)
- Power control cable
- 300ml bottle of anti-algae additive
- A funnel
- Various tube fixings
- Comprehensive instructions
Delphi is one of the worlds premiere suppliers of automotive cooling products. If you look at how the critical parts of a cars engine are cooled, it is highly analogous to a PC water-cooling system, albeit on a much enlarged scale. This makes them a highly logical team partner in the attempt to make a top class product in this field. Let’s find out if they succeeded.
