OCZ's finest memory. Now that is saying something. Ever since OCZ introduced the EL DDR series, they have continually wowed us here at OcPrices with astonishing levels of performance. The PC4000 Gold is the latest from OCZ, and is their current flagship, promising 500mhz at 2.5-7-4-4 timings. Read on to see how far this memory really goes…

Much like the newest Corsair TwinX, OCZ has given their newest dual channel memory a unique box, rather than just slapping two sticks back to back. The PC4000 also features the same gorgeous and shiny gold heat spreader as its PC3700 cousin.

In this case, even more than with the PC3700 Gold, you will want to have an 865PE or 875P, and a Pentium 4C that you aren’t afraid to push to its limits. If you have an nForce2, or you don’t plan to overclock, pick up some PC3200 EL DDR instead. The PC4000 Gold does not even remotely like tight timings, nor will it stand for 2.5V. Only hardcore overclockers need apply.

As with the PC3700 Gold, the 4000 features OCZ’s EVP or “Extended Voltage Protection”, which allows the ram to run at up to 3.0V. A protection circuit is in place to keep over-voltage problems in check. OCZ will replace under warranty any module that fails within EVP tolerance levels (2.7-3.0V). This will definitely come in handy, because the more voltage you can put into the PC4000, the more performance you will get out of it.
