Introduction

It’s been quite awhile since the Icemat was one of the players in our gaming pad shootout. Since then, there have been several generations of enhancements to optical mice, and the Icemat is now available in an optical friendly jet black color, so I felt it deserved a re-test.

The Icemat is a rather standard 250 x 210 x 6.2 mm rectangular shape, which I happen to like better than the curved edges on most plastic pads. I have the pad right up against the edge of my desk, and I like being able to use all of its area, and not have to work inside a “C” shape.

As you can see, the Icemat is now a nice deep black, and has no trouble with optical mice. Icemat still makes the translucent version, but I strongly recommend against using it unless you’re a caveman with a ball mouse.
