Introduction

Who would have thought that PC-3200 would become the “generic” memory speed, but with the Pentium 4 and Athlon 64 platforms that is exactly what has happened. Since then we have seen a steep accent to the lofty heights of PC-4000 and even PC-4200 which are available now. Today we are looking at a matched pair that puts even these brand new standards to shame – Corsair Micro’s PC-4400 Twin X 1GB kit. Rated to a huge 275MHz (550MHz DDR) it’s a full 50MHz faster than even their previous flagship line, the PC-4000 that we reviewed PC 4000 review.

Corsair’s fancy new packaging makes a welcome return, and as you can see we have a pair of the platinum edition sticks this time around. There is no difference in performance between the silver heatspreader equipped Corsair and the regular black version, so simply get the version you prefer the look of. Corsair's reassuring holograms show that you have received what you have paid for and not an imitation – do not accept new Corsair memory without it!

The XMS-4400 should be available from all good UK stockists including Overclockers, Micro Direct and Dabs by the time you read this for an RRP of around $420, or ÂŁ233 ex VAT.
