Kiki X
Soyo Kiki X ReviewOne thing I don’t like about PC gaming is the peripheral companies seeming inability to create a comfortable and accurate game pad. Now Microsoft have stopped making their almost acceptable Sidewinder range, I had almost given up hope of finding a decent pad and just playing those kinds of games (for example fighting and football titles) exclusively on consoles, despite their poorer graphics. That’s when browsing at my favourite store, www.chillblast.com I came upon an apparent saviour – the Soyo “Kiki-X”.
Despite having quite possibly the most ridiculous name of any device since time began, the Kiki-X is a snazzy PS2 to USB converter, allowing you to take advantage of both analogue sticks, all 10 buttons and the directional pad on a PS2 or PS1 controller. In the box is provided a driver disk and the converter itself. If you are using windows XP you will not even need drivers, simply plug in a PS2 pad, then configure it in the control panel.
Once plugged in, the analogue button toggles between using the D-pad and the analogue stick for the X-Y axis – this can be done in game for most titles. If the game has support for one, they can both be used at the same time, with the D pad becoming a Point of View HAT. The Right analogue stick is the Z axis and rotation as standard, so you can use it as a rudder in flight games if you don’t have or don’t like a stick.
At just £16, if you have a PS2 already then this should be an invaluable addition to your gaming arsenal. Pick them up here and demand the usual free OcPrices endorsed shipping from the Chillies.
