This little egg shaped pod is the RF transmitter\receiver. It features a âlearnâ button for adding additional wireless devices, and three green LEDs to signal whether caps lock, num lock, and F lock are engaged or disengaged. The software also provides a little on-screen display which will alert you to the caps lock and num lock, so if the transmitter is hidden somewhere where you canât see the LEDs, you arenât left in the dark, so to speak. The manual states that the pod needs to be at least approximately 8 inches from the keyboard and mouse in order for them to work properly. I found that the mouse was fine relatively close to the pod, but they keyboard would sporadically miss keystrokes if not at least a good foot away, so you may have to experiment a bit to find an optimal position.
The software is Intellipoint 5.0, and is largely the same as previous versions, just adding support for the features of Microsoftâs new wireless models.
If you look down in the lower left corner, youâll notice a major change from Intellipoint 4 to 5. The âassign buttons to specific applicationsâ box is gone. Iâm not exactly sure as to why it got the axe, but itâs unfortunate, as I did use this feature on occasion. Unreal 2, for example, doesnât natively recognize side buttons, and thereâs no longer a way to assign the side buttons to keyboard keys specifically for Unreal 2. Hopefully this function will return.
Here you can see the available adjustments for the scroll wheel. Horizontal and vertical sensitivity can be adjusted independently of each other.
