Here’s what the display looks like during play back. Even though the window is fairly small, you’re given complete information as to the track number, time, folder, track title, Khz and bit rate, with enough room left over for a customizable visualization.
So how is the sound? In a word, awesome. Even without the Xtreme3D activated, the sound from the player is excellent. (Provided your using 128K+ MP3 or 96K+ WMA, garbage in, garbage out.) With Xtreme3D turned on, things just get that much better. You’ll definitely want to invest in some good headphones to pair with this player if you don’t have some already. The iRiver is easily one of the best sounding portable players of any type available, but it needs quality cans to really work its magic. When headphone shopping, just make sure you keep an eye on the sensitivity level. The iRiver can only output 10mW @ 16ohms per channel, so high powered exotics like Sennheiser HD-650s or Beyer DT-880s aren’t going to work.
iRiver has a full line of superb products from MP3 CD players, hard drive and flash based players, as well as upcoming full blown multimedia players that are the best in the industry. Before you plunk down all that cash for an iPod, you owe it to yourself to check out iRiver.
