In terms of performance, the Icy Box gives up very little compared to a drive attached to a regular IDE channel. Sandra disk performance is barely adequate, but it gives a decent ballpark figure for comparison. The Icy Box is only a few MB/s slower than the internal hard drive connection. Transfer rates are also excellent. Transferring all 3.6GB of a far cry ISO took 1min 52 seconds vs 2 minutes 10 seconds using the Icy Box, again an impressively small difference.

Identical drive in Icy Box
In terms of temperature, drives in the Icy Box were around 2 degrees warmer than in my case, which happens to be a Lian Li. Considering there are two case fans directly next to the drives in the case, this is impressively cool. There would certainly be no overheating concerns when using this product.
