After breaking into the computer power industry with their highly acclaimed âPowerstreamâ power supplies, (our review will be up shortly) OCZ's next move was to release power cables with radio frequency and electro-magnetic interference shielding for critical components. What can these do for your system? Read onâŚ
It is rather surprising how little attention is given to the state and quality of AC power these days. Iâm sure there are more than a few of you out there who have $3,000+ water, or even more exotic method cooled mega rigs plugged into a $10 Wal Mart âsurge protectorâ, which is probably sharing the receptacle with, or worse yet, has something like a high wattage lamp plugged directly into it also. The truth is that if a big enough spike hit your home to really damage or destroy your system, that Wal Mart protector is like standing under a tidal wave with an umbrella. A UPS can help regulate voltage fluxes, but most affordable UPS do basically zero when it comes to RF\EMI filtering. I would suggest something like AC Powerâs âPower Packâ in place of your $10 protector, which will clean out the electrical noise that items like air conditioners and refrigerators dump into your AC lines, and will also actually protect you from serious surges.
To take things a step further, you could use something like a Sonic Horizon âSunriseâ or âDaybreakâ AC cord in place of the $2 cord that came with your PSU to make sure your system is getting the clean voltage it needs.
While these items will do a lot to help make sure that effective, clean power is getting to the PSU, they canât help the actual components inside the case, where there are also significant amounts of RF and EMI noise. This is where the OCZ power leads come in.
