Asetek has been at the top of the PC phase change cooling industry for many years now, and whilst competitors have come and gone, they remain supreme as the only firm who have lasted the distance. The latest fallen competitor, nVENTIV, formerly known as Chip-Con had a very powerful base unit cooler called the Prometeia Mach II. Asetek’s Vapochill LS is quite a similar unit, but has a more powerful compressor, comes with an LCD display and aluminium cladding as standard, making it considerably better value than the Mach II.
My LS arrived extremely well packed, in a white box. Within the box any movement was inhibited with the use of large polystyrene blocks. The only concern I have is that the condenser itself does have slight room for movement within the aluminium housing. If dealt a sufficiently heavy blow, this could dent the panel.
Inside the box you will receive, in addition to the main cooling unit itself:
1 x Instruction manual
1 x Mounting kit for socket 754/939/940/478
1 x Chillcontrol circuit board
1 x Bag of assorted temperature probes and USB cable
Unlike the Vapochill XE, as previously mentioned, the LS is a base unit. This means that you will need to have a case to go on top. I highly recommend the Lian Li PC-60, since this is the case Asetek have tailored the LS to look its best with. Installed, you should have something resembling the system below, pretty stylish I'm sure you will agree!
The Vapochill LS can be purchased from a number of UK resellers including www.chillblast.com and www.overclockers.co.uk. The price of the unit stands at £464 ex VAT for the silver model, and £499.50 for the black model.
