OCZ’s PC3700 Gold has earned quite a reputation as an excellent overclocker. In my review of the first generation 3700 Gold back in July of ’03, I was very impressed with the 3700 Gold’s excellent performance. Today I have a look at the latest and greatest version of 3700 Gold. How does it stack up? Read on.
Test DIMMs are a pair of OCZ 3700 Gold Rev. 3 in a 1GB kit (2x512MB modules). PC3700 Gold Rev. 3 is available as a 512MB kit (2x256MB DIMMs), a 1GB kit (2x512MB), and as individual 256MB and 512MB DIMMs. The box is OCZ’s new orange kit, and is certainly a massive improvement over the two boxes taped back to back like in revision 1.
It wouldn’t be Gold without the trademark Gold finished heat spreaders. While revision 1 used Samsung chips, underneath these heat spreaders are new Hynix DT-D5 chips.
Timings for the latest 3700 Gold are 2.5-3-3-8, at 2.8V. As usual, the sticks are backed with lifetime warranties, and also OCZ’s extended voltage protection, which in this case allows you to put up to 3.0V into the ram while retaining the factory warranty. On to the testing!
