To be honest I wasn’t exactly overjoyed at the prospect of reviewing some case-fans, but Bill at Cool Case Mods promised me that I wouldn't be disappointed. When I opened up the package, two amazingly garish fans stared back at me. Cool I thought, they will look nice in the front of my case...
Also enclosed was a UV cold cathode, similar to the green one I reviewed a couple of weeks ago here. It provides a nice purple glowing effect, which also shows up any white rubbish on your carpet, clothes, cat and any other poor trusting critter you happen to probe with it. I covered cold cathode installation in a previous review here, so I wont go over it again. Suffice to say its very easy and you would have to be a complete muppet to screw things up.

Now this is SERIOUSLY cool stuff people, and great fun to play with whether you put it in you case or just fiddle with it. Moving the UV lamp at different angles in relation to the reactive fans produces different effects. Thanks to my charming assistant Clare for the use of her hands. (ooh err!)
Believe it or not, This is the front of my Lian Li PC60 case. Looks all well and good.
Turn on the power, and turn off the lights and look at the effect! Absolutely awesome!
At £9.50 ($13) a piece, these fans are not much more expensive than regular 80mm case fans, and since they are modified (by CCM themselves) YS-Tech models, there is no worries about the quality either. They produce 38CFM at just 28dB(A), making them ideal for case fans, or for use with an 80-60mm converter like the one here.
The UV Cold Cathode is more expensive at £19, but since it includes the inverter, still offers pretty good value for money.
Conclusion
I am so impressed with the way UV lights make my case look, I have decided they are a must for any case modder worth his stuffing. For this reason I have decided to award the Cool Case Mods UV reactive fans and cathode lamp an OcPrices.com Elite Choice award.
