Introduction
Introducing OCZ PC3000
Phew, memory prices are so high right now that they are becoming absurd. A few months ago we were enjoying 256MB of Crucial RAM for around £35 ($49). Now the same stick of memory will set you back more than three times that amount. Current prices show Crucial at £73 ($106) for 256MB, with some other brands such as Corsair going for as much as $137. It may surprise you then that OCZ's PC3000, rated at a whopping 183MHz, undercuts both by a significant amount. Right now you can grab 256MB of the stuff for just $99.99. Where's the catch? That's what this review is here to find out!

OCZ's PC3000 comes shrouded in some rather awesome looking copper heat-spreaders. My stick is of the standard copper variety, although OCZ also do sticks available in military black as well. Underneath the heatspreader lurks hand-picked Hynix memory chips all rated to insane speeds by OCZ themselves before shipping. OCZ is so convinced by the quality of their memory that they offer a lifetime warranty.

This is how your memory will come packaged, in a neat little plastic box. After ripping it open, I was quite surprised at how much heavier these are than 'naked' RAM chips - naturally due to the thick copper. Heatspreaders work by dissipating the heat generated by the sticks over a larger surface area. To be honest I am not sure how effective these spreaders are, since my review of thermaltake spreadersd showed that they did nothing at all.
