Introduction Hey everybody! I must tell you my heart aching story. As you may already know, IBM Deskstar GXP HDDs, well, suck. As Nightmare pointed out to all of us in one of his news editorial posts, IBM has recently informed people that their HDDs are not conditioned to run for more than eight hours straight. Unfortunately, I found this out to be true. Two years ago I bought a Deskstar 75GXP from IBM, it was considered one of the best hard drive disks to have. It is surprisingly still actively working to this day, but not nearly as well as it had been. About eight months after I bought the 75GXP I started to hear the awful sound of a high pitched “WEE…” every time I clicked on a new file. I originally thought it was one of my case fans because they ran quite loud, but the delayed access time to my files proved me wrong. Most of you would know it as the COD or Click Of Death. I think it’s pretty sad and unfortunate to have a 7200RPM HDD to “overheat,” and I must tell you, these do run hot. I've heard that some people think that HDD coolers are a waste of time and money. Hardly. HDDs die all the time, and mostly because they overheat. TweakTown has some tips on how to fix some of the GXP problems. You can find that page here, but considering to buy an HDD cooler would be a smart thing to do.
