Benchmark Results
All of our benchmarks were performed at stock speed, utilising a Radeon 5850 video card and a Samsung F3 1TB hard disk. 4GB of G.Skill DDR3 memory was installed at 1333MHz for each system and our test board was the Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2H. Our Intel test board was an Asrock H55DE3.

In PCMark Vantage the Phenom II X2 555 bests the Intel chip by a small margin. Burrowing down into the individual scores, the Phenom scores its biggest victory in the Productivity subtest, whilst the Intel was very slightly ahead in the Memories subtest.

In our video encoding test the Phenom II X2 555 is well ahead of the Pentium. Without Hyper Threading technology to help it on its way the G6950 can’t make up for a clock speed difference of 400MHz.

In our two gaming benchmarks the Phenom shows the Pentium G6950 a clean pair of heels. If you are a gamer you’ll want to go with the AMD chip at this price point, particularly if you are planning on unlocking the Phenom’s latent cores.
