I am blessed by the fact that my university just happens to be situated on the most densely populated PC shop area in the world - Tottenham Court Road in London. This gives me the opportunity to seek out and play with all of the latest gadgets as soon as they come in. Whilst looking in one of my favourite shops, HiTechPC, something rather unusual caught my eye. Believe it or not it was an 80mm-60mm adapter. Now these things are usually contenders for the most boring things imaginable to read a review about, but before you click "back" on your browser, take a look at this pic:
Got your attention? Good. Enter the Ice Hole, from AVGS technologies in Taiwan. As you can see it is not your usual run-of-the mill plastic cup with the bottom cut out. Far from it. This little beauty features:
- Adjustable fan speed
- A choice of 3 different coloured LEDs, or any combination of each
- The ability to make your PC the coolest looking thing since sliced frozen bread.
Even the box looks great. As well as the adapter itself, you also get all the necessary 3-pin connecting cables and a wide variety of screws that allow you to mount just about any 80mm fan imaginable, including the 80x80x30mm Delta Mega screamer™.
The switchable LED allows you to select blue:
Green:
Red:
Or any combination of the above!
Right, now lets take a look at how the adapter affects performance...
