Introduction

Grey IDE cables have to be the most ugly aspect of any PC, especially with an increasing number of manufactures providing attractively coloured PCBs and CPU coolers. Avid overclockers have been stripping their IDE cables and rounding them using tape for a long time, claiming that the lower profile cable improves airflow through the case and thus helps to reduce temperatures. I have decided to test this theory, but rather than rounding them myself, I will be using some rather swanky Tekheads rounded IDE cables.

The cables are of perfect length, and it’s nice to see a floppy cable without the long-redundant secondary connector. All of the cables have the very helpful notch in them that prevent you from attaching the cables upside down. They support the high-speed ATA66/100 standard, and come in a variety of colours including yellow, white and red. Being boring, I chose black cables because I think they look dead 'ard!
