The Fighterstick
The Fighterstick
The Fighterstick is still loosely based on the F-16 aircraft controller, and in terms of overall layout and construction, these new models are largely the same as their gameport counterparts. (Even the classic Flightstick Pro is still made in USB form, and as the saying goes, why mess with a good thing?) There are some changes though, which I will explain below.

Notice the row of the LED lights next to the title on the base of the stick? Those were not present on the gameport version of the Fighterstick, and are basically the major change between the two, aside from the USB plug.

The reason they are there is that the new Fighterstick can hold three different programming layouts at the same time. The button on the side of the handle next to the trigger switches between them on-the-fly. This effectively makes the Fighterstick USB capable of three times the number of programmable functions as the gameport version, allowing 72 possible functions for its 24 buttons. If a "shifted" action for buttons is also mapped, then the number of possible actions for the Fighterstick USB is doubled again to a resounding total of 144, and that’s just on the Fighterstick, folks.
