The SLK-800 comes packed nicely in a fairly unassuming brown carton. In the box is the cooler itself, a set of Thermalright’s unique fan retention wires, 8 circular non-conductive pads, thermal compound, and a thermal pad. The included compound was used for the tests. The SLK-800 does not come with a fan; that choice is left up to you.
The SLK-800’s build quality is definitely up to Thermalright's established high standards. This is simply a gorgeous heatsink. The stepping in the fins allows for various fan sizes, although it definitely performs at its best paired with an 80mm fan.
The only gripe I have with the SLK-800’s design is its clip…Thermalright really needs to make some progress here. This cooler is quite heavy and definitely needs the 3 pronged clip, which unfortunately is an absolute pain. Something besides the one tiny screwdriver hold would be greatly appreciated. This is not a clip that in any way is fun to work with!
