OverPlay Review
VPN service providers fall into a few different camps. Some of the programs out there are concerned with providing its users with a very specialized service- such as a VPN service that specializes in providing anonymity for torrent enthusiasts. Other programs are considerably more general, and tend to compete with each other over price. Then there are programs that fall somewhere in the middle. They work very well for most VPN services but specialize in one task or another while still charging a reasonable, mid-range price. OverPlay is one of those VPN services, and it’s a good one.
One of the most common and popular reasons why individuals use OverPlay is to watch BBC’s iPlayer in countries other than the UK. There are plenty of different media players and websites that are country specific (such as Hulu) and BBC iPlayer is one that’s only available within the UK when using standard internet connections.
Of course, other VPN services are able to connect you with this media service as well so it isn’t a unique selling feature of OverPlay, though OverPlay does provide you with a variety of unique features. One of its signature features is the fact that the service provides you with a custom build using OpenVPN-GUI or TunnelBlick when your computer connects to the internet using their service. Not only does this provide you with a faster, more secure and more varied service but it also provide updates and other important maintenance services automatically whenever they produce new servers to connect through. Other VPN services, even other well regarded and popular VPN services, create limitations on the number of servers that you’re able to access or how often you’re able to access them every month. OverPlay makes the process of increasing your safety, security and anonymity automatic with this feature.
OverPlay also offers something that other VPN services lack, which is unlimited bandwidth with a single monthly charge. Some other VPN services provide all of their users with a limited level of bandwidth no matter what, while some VPN services charge you according to bandwidth (either byte by byte or through tiered pay scales). OverPlay simply provides you with unlimited bandwidth at $9.95 a month.
Additionally OverPlay provides its users with another unique and user-friendly feature, which is the ability to share access to their service among multiple users from the same site. Instead of having to purchase multiple accounts for multiple users, you are able to share your access to their services with others with far greater flexibility than nearly any other VPN service provides.
OverPlay is not perfect as they do not feature live support. Because VPN services run live and are somewhat notorious for producing dropped connections and other problems (which is standard and to be expected no matter which service you use) live support has been other provider’s answer to this ubiquitous problem. While OverPlay does provide its users with a customer support system it doesn’t provide them with this level of instant, live support that many other services sell themselves on. Still, because OverPlay is a generally stable service this isn’t exactly the end of the world or a huge detraction from the company- it all just depends on how important this administrative feature is to you.
Overall OverPlay is a great option to meet your VPN needs, especially if those VPN needs revolve around watching streaming foreign television and broadcasts (such as overseas sports matches or BBC’s iPlayer). If you can live without dedicated live support and some of the other more extended features offered by the more expensive and top-tier VPN services out there then OverPlay makes a great general option in the field.
