Installation Method

Mounting the LMX

As you’d hope with a cooler of this size and weight, Danamics has developed an extremely strong screw-based mounting method for their cooler. Chillblast assures us that the mount is strong enough for it to survive multiple courier visits, which given the general lack of performance of UK delivery firms is a testament to its durability.

Mount

Fitting the LMX is easy enough but will require removal of your motherboard. The first step is to screw the motherboard plate on the rear of the board to the relevant mounting clips on the other side. All major platforms are supported by the LMX, though if opting for the Superleggera version you need to choose either an AMD or Intel option. Once the clips have been fitted you now have to slot a thick metal plate and associated plastic spacer in between the heat pipes. This is a little fiddly but we were done in less than a minute. With the space threaded through you now simply screw the assembly onto the clips mounted earlier. All in all it’s quite an elegant solution and reminds us of the all-metal mounting solutions employed by Noctua; another performance heat sink manufacturer. We’d suggest you allow around 20 minutes for installation.

Fans

With the cooler mounted it’s now time to fit the fans. The LMX comes with two 2000rpm Silenx fans, both of which need mounting to either side of the heat sink assembly. This is done effortlessly thanks to two sliding orange plastic clips which hold them steadily in place. If you opt for the Superleggera model you’ll have to fit your own fans – just make sure you don’t skimp here as low quality models can have a surprisingly detrimental effect on the performance of any heat sink.

Powerbooster

Once the fans are fitted and plugged into the board it’s time to fit the power booster. This is the name Danamics gives to its electromagnetic pump and it’s designed to sit in a spare 3.5” bay. Danamics has cleverly drilled holes equivalent to a normal 3.5" hard drive for the power booster meaning it should fit in cases that use caddies just as easily as it does models with conventional screw mounts.
