Thermaltake are always pioneers of new and inventive ways of cooling down your computer, and their latest creation is bizarre to say the least! Thermaltake memory has come bundled with heatsinks attached for some time, as /\/\ajor found out in his Thermaltake DDR memory review. It seemed to make little difference however, as the memory performed very poorly compared to the likes of Crucial and Corsair offerings. Fortunately they have taken their memory cooling endeavours to all new heights, with the introduction of a fan (!) onto their RAM sinks.
As you can see the kit comprises of the memory heatsinks themselves (which are backed with what i presume is thermally conductive sticky tape), some clips to hold the sinks firmly on, and that’s it! The RAM sink's fan unfortunately take up a three pin fan socket for operation, meaning you will either have to sacrifice one of your case fans or buy an adaptor. Since the fan overlaps your other memory when installed, the other chips will also benefit from its awesomely huge 5cfm power.
Here we can see the Ram Sinks attached to my Crucial RAM stick. Looks great I'm sure you will agree! Coupled with other blue and orange Thermaltake stuff, we have the potential for a seriously colour-coded setup.
Installation of the RAM sinks is hardly worth mentioning, you simply peel of the thermal sticky tape backing and attach it to your memory, and then pop on the metal clips. To aid transfer, I removed the "Crucial" stickers from the RAM, but be warned doing this will invalidate your warranty.
